How to write an application letter

Ahmed Salifou -

Introduction

An application letter, also known as a cover letter, is a document that you send with your resume or CV when you are applying for a job. The purpose of the application letter is to introduce yourself to the employer, provide information on your qualifications and experience, and explain why you are interested in the position.

Tips for writing an effective application letter:

  • Start with a professional heading that includes your name, address, phone number, and email address.

  • In the opening paragraph, briefly introduce yourself and explain why you are writing. Mention the specific job title and company you are applying to.

  • In the body of the letter, highlight your relevant skills and experiences that make you a good fit for the position. Use specific examples to demonstrate your expertise and achievements.

  • In the closing paragraph, thank the employer for considering your application and express your interest in an interview. Include your availability for an interview and how you can be reached.

  • Use a professional and courteous tone throughout the letter. Avoid using slang or overly casual language.

  • Proofread your letter carefully to ensure that it is error-free.
